Collaboration Comes Full Circle

“What I love about working with Shaw, is that every time we come up with a new idea, we got another new idea, and they're all informed by the same set of values. Shaw Industries was the first that said the Cradle to Cradle concept actually matters so much, we're just gonna begin and work into this standard that's being developed.”

Architect. Author. Designer. Innovator. William McDonough is the champion of Cradle to Cradle® design. Through William McDonough + Partners, he designs environmentally responsible buildings for companies like Google and Ford that incorporate innovative systems for energy conservation and use. In Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, McDonough outlines the benefits of products that are continuously reused, allowing for maximum material value and drastic waste reduction. By incorporating Cradle to Cradle thinking into its organization, Shaw designs carpet that is completely recyclable into new carpet. In 2003, we launched A Walk in the Garden using Cradle to Cradle design thinking and a mission to use product ingredients for positive impact on our ecosystems. This collection’s design framework helped drive the development of a certification process to inventory, screen, assess and optimize everything we make – with a focus on human health and safety. We take great pride in relaunching this collection as a testament to our commitment – then and now. Our belief in continued investment in the five Cradle to Cradle™ Certification principles is a promise that tomorrow will be even better.
