Philips North America

For the 32,000 SF interior fit-up of Philips’ new office, the design challenge was to translate the company’s shift in work and corporate culture into a high performance workspace that promotes Philips’ brand of improving the quality of people’s lives by focusing on health and well-being. Philips’ open worksettings are arranged in seven “neighborhoods”, which are adjacent to the exterior windows. They offer a choice of how and where to work, and are anchored with a rich deep blue patterned carpet. Small meeting rooms and enclosed worksettings divide each neighborhood and are set off by a charcoal accent carpet mirroring the ceiling design and helping to interrupt corridor lengths. Interior wall graphics line main circulation paths and aid in wayfinding. Furnishings in the open areas are in a complementary color of the carpet and coordinate with the interior graphics and color light coves. In addition, 90% of the lighting is LED and includes a daylight harvesting system and controls to help provide an overall innovative and green solution. A central multi-functional “Town Square” becomes the heart of the office, serving as a meeting space for internal and external meetings. The carpet colors were selected to energize the space, which promotes innovation and collaboration. A collection of natural imagery graphics in colors corresponding to the graphics within the circulation paths is integrated into this common area. Philips’ new livable and workable space leverages dynamic office design to re-enforce the company’s core values and brand.
