County House Province Zuid-Holland

Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox in the 90s, the County House architecture is based on the wind-blown sand dunes along the North Sea. The refurbishment expresses the client’s desire to connect the building and create a merged workspace. Functions are scattered across the floors in a carefully zoned, activity-based working concept strung together by a curvy pattern in the flooring, loosely following the long corridor through the building. Daylight, weather and seasons transform the interior daily, making employees and visitors aware of the world outside. Movable curtains create spaces for every type of work and gathering, minimizing the total number fixed workspaces and meeting rooms. Sustainability was an important factor for the renovation. The Shaw Contract carpet tile sourced is Cradle to Cradle Silver certification, NSF and CRI Green Label certified. Individually cutting the carpet tiles to shape the curved pattern minimized material waste. And the re-use and reupholstering of furniture helped to achieve the client’s sustainability goals.
